Dress:  Old Navy Strapless Flower-Print Dress; Sweater:  The Limited Banded Bolero Sweater; Shoes: Nine West Oliva Heels (Old) (Similar Here)

Last weekend, Jason and I headed South to North Carolina to go to a wedding for some friends.  To channel the southern spirit, I decided to wear this Old Navy sundress, with some alterations.

This dress was an amazing deal that I was able to pick up for just $4 online! Unfortunately, they were sold out of petite sizing.  I ordered the dress anyway and decided that I would try my hand at some at home alterations.

I hemmed the dress by 5-6 inches and I also closed the pleats at the waist a bit because they were gaping a bit more than I liked.  I was a little nervous about the strapless style, but the dress has a band around the top that helps it stick and stay up. Plus the back is stretchy and gathered, making it tighter more form-fitting than it appears.

Even though it was much warmer than Chicago, the weather predicted rain on and off for the whole day, so I paired it with this black shrug.  Wearing a short sweater like this also helps keep the emphasis on my natural waist, and helps prevent me from looking boxy.

In the end, I like how the alterations turned out on this.  I’m really looking forward to wearing this dress again once the weather warms up.
